Michael Jackson's Pets

Look at that. Michael Jackson's pet chimp Bubbles holding a plush doll of himself... wearing a captain's hat.

Why did I not know this existed before today?

In fact, there was a whole line of Michael's Pets. Including a giraffe in aerobics gear:

The back reads:

Jabbar The Giraffe
He’s tall and thin and talkin’ fast, he’s a giant with a big heart -  that Jabbar the Giraffe. “Hey, what you say”, asks Jabbar. This Giraffe’s so tall he can’t hear you blabber. But, if you hear a song from the sky, it’s probably this fantastic guy. He’s got a superb sound – the highest pitch we’ve ever found. When he’s not singing, Jabbar likes to tap and jitterbug. He’s got four of the fastest feet and his dancin’ style is really neat. Take Jabbar home and tell him what’s happening, ‘cause this poor guy misses lots of things

At first I thought they meant he missed things about the jungle now that he's at MJ's house and dressed like Irene Cara. But they just mean he's so tall he misses stuff that happens closer to earth.

The coolest part was that they came with a cassette tape. I can only imagine what was on it.
I briefly thought the image of Michael had him holding an accordion.

Pages from an Australian book

Recently a twitter follower/followee shared the following book with me:

I am fascinated with Australia... to be honest, I am fascinated with most countries... including mine. But Australia has always been extra excited because of 2 men with "Crocodile" in their nicknames.

LOOK AT THAT! He is bending buildings!

Also this guy:
Loved that guy.

Anyway, here are some pages from the book:

Where's the Beef? Wednesday?

I noticed this in the background of Crocodile Dundee. I can't make out what it says after "Where's the beef?"

Wednesday? Wollondee? I don't know. It's as puzzling as that trick he does to put animals to sleep by waving his fingers.

The Green Frog

Found this in an old newspaper from 1977:
The Green Frog Restaurant looked so cool. I googled to find more about it.

I dug back to 1974.

Someone called it "oldest restaurant"! I don't know who called it that, but good on them!

I like this story. Started out in 1938 as a 10 stool, 2 booth restaurant and then became a 260 seat place!

I found this postcard on eBay:

In 1978 they observed their 40th anniversary... and stamps were on trial:
Also in 1978, old comic strips!

Also Carlton Fluker was running for something!

And the debut of the CBMobile!

September 1981... bad news:
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Could the news be any worse?
\
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I can't take it!
Oh no! This can't be worse!
Ah good! I knew it had to get better!

Here's workmen taking the sign down, it claims it's going to Florida.

One month later cooks prepared the final meals and Agnes serves 'em:

So what happened?

Well, Bill Darden who founded The Green Frog went on to found THE RED LOBSTER!!!

If only frogs were as delicious as lobster they would be at every shopping center.

Bill died in 1994 at the age of 75. He had founded The Green Frog at the age of 19!
His company is called Darden Restaurants and also includes Olive Garden, Yard House, Bahama Breeze and in 2007 they added LongHorn Steakhouse!
Whoooo hooo! Look at that celebration! She's got her umbrella on her wrist because LongHorn is gonna make it rain! Whoooo!

Thumbs up.

Celebrity Endorsement

Found this in a 1977 newspaper... I believe it.
